Sean Bermingham awarded Runner-Up of the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB) Apprentice of Year 2024
RSE Electrical Project Engineer, Sean Bermingham, has been awarded the Runner-Up of the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB) Apprentice of Year 2024, held in conjunction with Edmundson Electrical.
Sean embarked on his career path with RSE as an Electrical Apprentice in March 2019, and from the outset, it was evident to everyone who worked alongside Sean at RSE that he possessed a combination of talent, diligence, and determination.
During his apprenticeship at RSE, Sean demonstrated a commitment to learning and developing within the electrical industry. His exceptional performance culminated in January 2023 when he completed his apprenticeship with an outstanding score in his Final Integrated Competence Assessment (FICA). This achievement is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and aptitude to electrical work.
Recognising Sean’s abilities, he was identified as a standout talent within RSE and as a result, at the conclusion of his apprenticeship, Sean was transitioned into an office-based role to pursue further studies. He embarked on a journey to obtain an HNC in Engineering Systems, with the goal of becoming an Electrical Project Engineer which he has now achieved.
One of the most impressive aspects of Sean’s journey is his ability to balance his professional and personal responsibilities. Despite having a young family, Sean managed to juggle the demands of his studies alongside his commitment to his apprenticeship and subsequent HNC programme. His dedication to his education and career advancement is truly commendable and serves as an inspiration to his peers and colleagues alike.
On being shortlisted as a finalist for the SJIB Apprentice of the Year 2024, Sean commented:
I am delighted to have made it to the final three for Apprentice of the Year. It has been a great experience, and I couldn’t have done it without the support from RSE. Thanks to the teachings of the senior electricians throughout my time, and my lecturers at Inverness College, I could put all of that into practice when it came to completing my FICA.
On being shortlisted as a finalist for the SJIB Apprentice of the Year 2024, Sean commented:
It was very satisfying finding out that I received one of the highest scores in the country, and it made all the hard work worthwhile. A special mention to Lloyd Scott and Jordan Hossack from the Electrical Installation team for helping me through my apprenticeship, and to Gordon Kellow for helping my career progress to the position of Electrical Project Engineer. It goes to show that a career as an apprentice electrician can progress down other avenues in the future.
Sean’s amazing achievement is thoroughly deserved. Having beaten almost 700 apprentices in Scotland to be shortlisted for this award is outstanding. The Apprentice of the Year Runner-Up award helps to underline Sean’s hard work in progressing from electrician to engineer and shows RSE’s commitment to investing in future talent to grow the business.
Mike Campbell, RSE Apprentice Training Officer, who has overseen Sean’s development as an Electrical Apprentice, added:
Sean is a shining example of what it means to be an outstanding Electrical Apprentice at RSE. His talent, diligence, and determination have not only contributed to his personal success but have also captured the culture and capabilities of our business. He is truly deserving of this recognition for his exceptional contributions and achievements.
Congratulations Sean!
