RSE Win Energy Transition Scotland Award at VIBES 2023
RSE is proud to be named the winner of the VIBES Energy Transition Scotland Award and to be recognised for our continued commitment to our Net Zero targets.
The VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards aim to encourage the efficient and sustainable use of resources and celebrate businesses who strive to improve environmental performance and support the achievement of sustainable development goals.
RSE is successfully developing market-leading technologies to innovate the water treatment industry through driving sustainable and ethical business solutions, with our efforts to minimise embedded carbon across all levels of our organisation being celebrated by the Energy Transition Scotland Award, whilst additionally being finalists for the Vision in Business – Best Large Business and Sustainable Transport awards. The Energy Transition Scotland award recognises organisations who have set out clear objectives to engage with and adopt energy saving measures, installations, and activities both internally and externally.
We aim to significantly reduce operational and energy-related carbon emissions as set out in our Net Zero route map by transitioning away from the use of traditional fossil fuels. By adopting low carbon technologies and renewable energy sources into our project processes and business operations, we significantly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. We encourage the decarbonisation of energy use across our business streams by instilling an environmentally conscious culture amongst our staff and developing partnerships with sustainable suppliers and community initiatives.
This has resulted in low carbon improvements such as opting for the supply of 100% green electricity across our facilities, alongside installing 360kW of locally sourced solar panels on our workshop buildings. We have additionally decarbonised our vehicle fleet by converting to electric vehicles and providing EV charge point facilities to staff, clients, and visitors to our locations.
Further transitions to greener energy sources have included heating workshop facilities with a biomass boiler powered by wood pellets, alongside installing an air source heat pump and rainwater harvesting solution on our buildings. Clean energy practices are additionally championed throughout our projects and shared with clients, such as switching to hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO) as a diesel alternative for site plant and generators.
“We are delighted to have won the Energy Transition Scotland Award. It evidences the commitment RSE is making to reducing fossil fuel use across the business. We have a diverse energy portfolio including solar panels, biomass boiler, HVO, and green electricity, all of which will help to minimise our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and ultimately contributes towards our Net Zero targets.“
Leia Pol, RSE Sustainability Graduate
“Energy transition is just one aspect of our Net Zero journey. This award motivates us to minimise our impact across all areas of sustainability, including embodied carbon, and reducing our supply chain and transport emissions.“
Chris Hart, RSE Innovations Manager
RSE’s forward-thinking business model means we are at the forefront of making the switch towards green and renewable energy, which will be vital as we move towards our Net Zero 2030 target. We are committed to investing in sustainable practices and renewable upgrades across the business, with the aim of highlighting to an energy intensive industry the importance of a green energy transition.
Our role in transforming the water treatment industry towards becoming more sustainable will continue be significant as we move forward with our commitment to delivering our ambitious Net Zero targets, with the aim of achieving Operational Net Zero by 2030, and Full Net Zero by 2035.
We’d like to thank the VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards for recognising RSE as winners of the Energy Transition category and to SSE for sponsoring the award. Our team thoroughly enjoyed the event and the showcase of sustainable businesses innovating within their industries to deliver vital Net Zero targets.
