Neil Pirritt, RSE Project Engineer, is taking part in Strictly Inverness 2024 on the 10th May as an event he has been wanting to take part in for years!

The annual fundraiser known as Strictly Inverness brings in substantial funds for the Highland Hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre, two local charities to where Neil is based in our Muir of Ord facility. Since it first launched in 2010, this competition has raised over £2 million for Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre. with 16 competitive couples being formed from 32 amateur dancers. The couples will perform their dances over the course of two nights with the top four couples from each night moving on to the Saturday night final, where they will compete in front of a special guest judge from Strictly Come Dancing.

All money raised goes to The Highland Hospice, which is a very important and exceptionally well delivered service, for people going through desperately difficult times. The Highland Hospice aims to support people, their families and carers, living with an advancing, life-shortening illness in the Highlands to live the best possible life and to prepare for and experience the best possible death. The charity has been established for around thirty years and Neil is very proud to be supporting The Highland Hospice through this event.

RSE will be Neil’s main corporate sponsor for the event, which is greatly appreciated, as this was crucial to him being able to take part. RSE has additionally offered to take a table at the event, where it will be full of support from Neil’s colleagues.

To kick-start Neil’s fundraising for the Highland Hospice, he completed the Inverness Half Marathon on the 10th of March. Impressively, he managed to complete the 13.1 mile route in a time of 1:48:35 just 7 months after undergoing hip replacement surgery. He will continue to be contributing to multiple fundraising events before Strictly Inverness takes place, to raise even more funds for the Highlands Hospice.

I’ve been tempted to enter into Strictly Inverness for a few years now, but life events have just held me back. However, this year it feels like the time is right to go for it! After getting hip replacement surgery last July, I had looked at setting the Inverness Half Marathon on the 10 th of March as a training/rehab goal, and now that I am doing Strictly, it worked out quite well as a fundraising opportunity for the event.
